Explosions in the Sky with Wye Oak at the Sound Academy; Friday October 7, 2011

There’s little to say about this gig because it was so well-performed.

I gotta give it to these Texans, they really have a sound of their own. Beyond all this post-rock jibber-jabber, this band rocks live. Their sound is completely flawless, no slips or turns from their recorded sound.

Modest, no encore, but non-stop go for an hour and a half.

It’s kind of an odd show to see as far as etiquette goes. Seems as though the dips around me were judging a girl that was dancing up and down, combined with a frantic clap. Alright, so maybe a little over the top, but no questions that chick was having a good time.

It was pure bliss hearing their big one “Your Hand In Mine.” There’s something about knowing a song so well you can feel what’s next. For me, it’s this song. I can’t even begin to tell you just how many times I watched this video:

and I spent quite a few hours trying to learn it on piano:
