While they beat out my homeboys the National, I am happy about the good sort of recognition for Best Alternative Album at the Grammys last night.
I would like to say that I don’t appreciate the division made of ‘Alternative Album.’ The only reason that Vampire Weekend and the National (and Neko Case while we’re at it) have been deemed “alternative” is because average Joe top 40s fan doesn’t know who these artists are. I’m a bit conflicted. I have caught myself saying that the Grammys are for people who like popular music, or what I’ve really been saying is it’s for people who need to be told what’s good. Ugh.
I can’t watch them anymore as I tend to want to throw things at the TV
